What should I do to stand out in my community service. I live in Miami; so it seems like somebody has already started every community service project one can think of. Although I have some ideas, how do I get a program started?

My take on this is that you should NEVER be doing community service just to stand out on your college application. You should be doing it because you want to. Therefore, do something that you feel passionate about and that you will enjoy.

You don't have to start a community service project. If you did, that would show leadership, but perhaps you could just volunteer for an existing one. There is no such thing as a totally selfless act, and nobody does anything for only a single reason. It is okay to help people because it makes you feel good, and it is okay to help because it will look good on your EC's. The main part of the EC's doesn't have to be community service. You should have some community service, though. Volunteer on something that you feel is important and would enjoy helping on.

yeah.... i'm already doing some community service where i tutor a second grader in reading throughout the year and i help out the international rescue committee... i guess that will have to be enough :)
