Ok so i was wondering wether the type of community service you do is taken into consideration. Will 200 hours of volunteering at a homeless shelter look bettter then 500 hours at school and for religious education programs?

I was wondering because i am currently on pace for around 750 hours at a volunteer program at my school to help get new lower school children acclimated with the school and get them up to where they should be skills wise. And i also volunteer at my local church for their religious education program. I know i should do what i like and i am but i was wondering will my 750 hours look worse compared to someone who volunteers for people who might be more needy.

Volunteer work is volunteer work. Whether it be for the extremely needy or those "less in need", you are still giving back to the community. That's all that counts.

except i dont... i planned on doing 500 cas i get something from the school, plus around 360 of my hours come from something i love to do which is volunteer with kids. Religious education not so much but it's not that bad only an hour a week. So i hate when people assume before they know the facts

Colleges, as far as I understand, care more about how you FEEL doing the service and the experiences you had instead of who you did it for, specifically. Truthfully, I don't know average volunteer stats (I figure I'll have done at least 200-300 hrs by the end of senior year but not at an established place, etc.). Don't worry about what colleges think about your service.
