What kind of community service have you done? Besides the usual elderly house, library, etc.

I'm asking this question because I can't think of anything to do that's 'worthwhile'

chuch choir, orchestra,,
tutor middle school or elementary school...

animal shelters and health drives

I did an internship at a hospital as well as volunteered at many blood drives. I think the only reason why I was able to do the hospital internship is because my father worked in the ER.

Here's something worthwhile:

Take a week off school and go to hurricane relief. There are zillions of organizations you can go with: Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and others.

How could I go about that? This hurricane has really affected me and I really want to help out and volunteer...would I need any experience? and would I have to pay for my own plane ticket to get there?

It depends what organization you go with. You probably couldn't go down for first response if you don't have any experience. Groups like Habitat for Humanity, though, which don't do first response, probably don't require experience. You wouldn't be able to administer medical care to refugees, but you could help build them new houses. You should check out their website. Also, just look around at different service organizations such as Kiwanis, Rotary, and Lions. They are probably doing something about the hurricane. You might be able to volunteer with one of them.

I don't know about plane tickets. It depends on the group. If you really wanted to go though (and couldn't pay yourself) you could probably get someone to sponsor you.

that's a freakin' great idea. I'm going to look into that.

maybe I will see you there, haha

ARG. I can't find anything that doesn't require experience. How could I get a sponsor?

I guess you could tell big companies what you want to do, and see if they would be willing to contribute by sending you there. I sent an email to Habitat for Humanity and they just ask you whether you have experience or not, so it's possible that people that have ZERO experience (like myself) can volunteer to help build houses, etc.

Does anyone else know of any other organizations besides Habitat for Humanity that doesnt always require experience.?
