GMU in general

I know GMU is looked at mostly as a commuter school but it seems to be growing pretty fast and it looks like a decent school, I took a tour last summer. But I don't know the inside story about GMU like parties/dorms/classes ect. I was wondering if anybody out there has anything to say about social life at GMU such as the dorms, weekends, ect.? If anybody is a current student at GMU and is reading this, please reply.

Hey, look at the other post I just replied to. There's detail on social scene at GMU.

I live near GMU and the surrounding area is pretty ok for a college town. It's close to three good malls and really close to the City of Fairfax which has a lot of fun pubs and bars to hang out in. Fairfax is pretty boring if you actually live here, but people from other states might find it somewhat interesting...as in, there are only so many things to do before you just get bored because you've done everything. hope that helps :)

plus, i hear a lot of students at GMU drive over to DC and party there...

Fairfax is far from a "college town". It's more of a university in a subarban area. However, there is a lot to do if you don't live in the area. I go out Thurs-Sat to random GMU parties or bars, and have always had a great time.

all the colleges in this area aren't considered a "college town" like the previous poster said.. UMD, GMU, AU, GW, Georgetown.. etc.. its all very suburban or located right near washington dc.. CP only has a couple bars on route 1 and GMU does have a community college feel to it,.. but DC nightlife is amazing..

Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, Georgetown,... u name it..

those coming from out of state, check out this site, www.dcnites.com
so many parties

Skinsnation: GMU doesn't have as much as a "community college" feel to it now. It's getting better in both social life and campus life since many more from around the state are coming in. 3-4 years ago, it seemed like a 4 year community college, now it's much better. It now has local hot spots like BWU, Neds, TT Reynolds etc right off campus that is always frequented by Mason kids.

It has gotten much better, trust me.

Georgetown has one of the best nightlifes ... and UMD just ****es me off. Other than Frat Row, that place doesn't offer much, only like 3 bars near campus? Hell, we at least have like 10 near campus.

Adams Morgan is great though.
