I have just been told by a friend that they heard Redlands was a commuter school and many students go home on the weekends. I had not heard this before. My son just committed to Redlands and is not from the area and won't have a car so I am concerned. Can any speak to this issue? Thanks

Please do not worry. We found many univ Redlands student grew up in Redlands but lived in dorms and stayed on campus over weekends. H and I felt more students stayed on campus at Redlands than other schools we visited. Perhaps your friend was thinking about the many adults who go through the school of business geared towards working adults. Living in the dorms at Redlands is a great experience. Lots of activities are planned for freshmen. Our son met many friends and rarely came home, we are about an hr away. Redlands also encourages students to live on campus all 4 years.

thanks for the feedback!

My son only knows a couple of students from the town of Redlands. Most of his friends are from out of the area and/or out of state. They all stay on campus for the weekends. There are outdoor trips scheduled nearly every weekend that many students enjoy.

We live 15 minutes away from the school and my daughter is a freshman. She has not come home on a weekend all year (unless there was a family event we asked her to come to, then she wanted to be taken back to school immediately). She doesn’t have a car, I think all of her friends are from out of state and only a few have cars, so they mostly stay on campus all weekend anyway (except for eating out and going to movies/shopping).

We saw son when we visited to see his performances (music). Otherwise housing had to be closed for him to come home. I think you will find U of R very caring. We met lots of dedicated staff when attending performances.
