Hey I'm looking to apply to UCI next year, but on College ******* it says that one of the worst things about UCI is that it is a commuter school? I was wondering is this true? I understand that about 80% of UCI freshmen students live on campus, but do the numbers gradually decrease as they become upperclassmen?

Also, I saw a video on YouTube in which some students were saying that it is boring on the weekends? How much of this is true? Also, what do you do for fun on the weekends?

It’s not students commuting to school that’s a problem. From my experience, there are lot of commuters coming from around the Irvine area but they don’t make up a majority. It’s the fact that 80% of the school disappears when the weekend arrives.

The UCI campus is dead beginning Friday evening (or very peaceful depending on your current mood). If you aren’t going home on the weekends and actually have friends who don’t go home on the weekends (rare), then you can all enjoy the peace together. That’s fun.

Not even being sarcastic though, UCI’s campus is beautiful but much more enjoyable when you don’t have classes and aren’t caught up in the rush of the school week. Take a walk in Aldrich Park or go eat at UTC with some friends. You could have a barbecue if you want. Or, you could just play video games or something in your dorm and enjoy not having to worry about studying.

If you really want something to do in Irvine, then you have to be able to get off the UCI campus. This basically requires a car or friends with cars.
