Commuting To cIty help!

Hi all- i live in connecticut on the ny border and am hoping to attend NYU stern. The problem is it is very expensive to slso live at the college and it would be in a small cramped appartment. Mu question would be weather it is cheaper to live on campus or to live at home snd take metro north daily from Goldens bridge station grand central snd then the subway downtown. ( i would have to schedule later classes to do this most likly) sny help would be nice- thanks

I am the same situation. I am going to MaryMount Manhattan College. It would cost me over 14k to live on campus sharing a very small apartment with 6 other girls. I called metro-north and they do not offer discounts to college students but if you would to buy the monthly ticket on metro-north it would cost you $315 a month from Golden Bride to Grand Central. They also offer a unlimited monthly metro north card for subway/buses it is $104. Depending on how much you would be using a subway in a month it may be less expensive to just by the 6 month metro card for $45 and always refill that. I hope this helps you. You can also join mail&ride which is free, that is where you would buy your monthly card and/or metro-north card for subway/buses, they would mail your card to you monthly and at anytime you could set it to suspend certain months in which you would not have to commute… Here is the linK: https://ec0.mta.info/mnr/Cvar_MR/index.cfm

Im alSo Worried that i could miss out on the “college experience” not living on campus and weather or not i can stand living with my parents for4 more years. I would also have to talk to the school cause its gonna take a minimum of like and hour and 45 minutes to get to school so i would need to have my classes start a little later and try to have them
Be one after another after that. The plus side is i could save money for other things as well as my parents who are helping put me through college and i also have 3 younger brothers.
