hey all. sorry if these sound like a stupid questions... new here and im trying to figure out my future plans...

is it possible to dbl major in cs and film/media studies? ..or major in one while having the other as a minor? i really dont know how all this major/minor stuff works so i'm kinda lost with it all.

...and is it necessary to be brilliant in math to major in cs? i mean, i think im well above average, but sometimes it had taken me quite some effort to maintain high b's and a's in my math courses. ive taken all preap/honors math classes since freshman year, and though i dont have a math class this year (didnt fit into my schedule), i'll be taking calc at the college here next semester. cs really appeals to me though-- i enjoy working with computers.. designing websites... using computer language... being up to date with the newest technology...

It really depends on your school, but often times, if both majors are available, it can be done. Because they are fairly different, there probably won't be as much overlap (as say, history and poli sci), but sometimes schools greatly limit classes which can count for both majors. In short, the simple answer is it depends on the school, but it can usually be done.

Necessary? I'd think no. From what I can tell, you have to be fairly good, though. Not genius, not amazing (although these are helfpul), but if you want to pass all of your classes, you will probably have to work hard and be at least decent at math, and by math I mean matrices/linear algebra/calc.

My friend possibly wants to double major in film studies and/or production and computer science (or major in one, minor in the other). What schools have strong programs in both?

Berkeley has great CS and film studies, but essentially no production. However, many directors emerge from schools which lack production, such as Brown.
