Why should a student choose NU over similarly sized and ranked schools like: UMich, Emory, WashU and Vandy? Or..why shouldn't one?

(This will be posted on all 5 school boards)

Thanks a lot.

close to home. a bit more diverse than washu (i think). better neighborhood than vandy (according to others who have visited). umich has a huge ass campus, and imagine walking 4-5 miles on a cold winter day.

personally, i look back and i wished i had applied to emory. they give out crazy money over there, whereas NU i didn't get anything and am paying the full price.

As a Michigan student, I just wanted to correct that although it is a "huge ass campus" (3200 acres) no one in their right mind walks over a mile to anywhere. That's why we have free and frequent buses to South, Central, and North Campus.

haha. i've never visited umich, i just heard from people that its campus was really disperse, more so than nu's at least (this was from someone i met while at previewnu). but thanks for the clarification. =)

Wow...someone please answer this post because I am considering all of these schools too, except maybe not vandy, so some one please answer this! Also, how is University of Chicago?

I don't know what you guys plan on studying, but Northwestern is more respected than the other schools you named, with the exception of Chicago, with which it is probably even. Northwestern is in Chicago, which offers awesome internships, cultural opportunities, weekend/day trips, etc. etc.. As for U of Chicago, their social life is supposedly dreadful. That's why I applied to NU and not Chicago. They're all good schools; you should really try visiting them to get a feel for the campus and people. If that isn't feasible, do as much research as possible on their websites and in their brochures.
