I am a first generation college student. Is the UG scholarship renewable? I would really appreciate your help and advice. Thank you in advance.

I believe the scholarship is renewable, but ask to make sure. You might want to ask if a minimum GPA is needed to keep it.

Thanks a lot, well if i want to ask for work study should i ask davis or the financial board administration. I have some money saved so i will probably only take the Federal Direct Loan Sub. So i would be in debt about $17,000. Its a reasonable price. My brother is going to college next year so i dont want to put stress on my parents. They are really sad i didnt get accepted to ucsd. They want me to stay. They really want me to go to san diego state . But is uc davis really worth the price for engineering? i could go to sdsu with out any loans. Is the picnic day( visiting day to davis) free?

Picnic Day is a free and open event for everyone, no registration required to attend! We hope you are all able to join us in celebrating UC Davis!

[Picnic Day](http://picnicday.ucdavis.edu/)

Contact the UCD financial aid office about getting some work study. I think going to UCD is probably better than going to SDSU. SDSU is more of a commuter college. UCD is a residential college. So, likely more activities and more of a full college experience.

Yes, you wont’ be as close to the folks, but in reality, once you’re in college, you’ll be too busy to be spending much time with the parents. IF you’re too close, they may expect you to come home too often - which may cause conflicts if you have other plans at school.

what about the plane tickets? Are they free thats what i heard in one of this forums. Is it a lie?

I doubt that UC Davis is paying for the transportation costs of thousands of accepted students to come to Picnic day. However, maybe for certain low incomes they are offering something. You’ll need to contact them and ask…

well no uc davis for me. Folks are being really ignorant about the situation. Well if i do 2 years in state or finish my undergrad can i transfer to uc davis or maybe a better uc?

You might be able to reduce the COA estimate. Travel might be less than estimated, my D spends less than 40 bucks 3 or 4 times a semester to come home, she uses a real cheap, fast bus line. The personal expenses can be reduced by careful spending; used books and supplies, etc. You might not need to pay the health insurance fee if your parents plan covers you, some colleges allow for you to waive that fee with proof of coverage. This might mean that you might not need 5500 in loans at all. WS would have been a good addition to the package. GL in your choice
