Comparing USC, Chapman, NYU, FSU

Ok, how would you compare the production program at USC, Chapman, NYU, FSU.
I've been "studying " their website, but i would like to hear from you guys.

What is yout opinion about Northwestern university radio film and tv program?

HELP HELP HELP HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

bummmmmppp

Let's see:

Los Angeles v. Tallahassee? Los Angeles v. Tallahassee?

Enough of being cute. My son is a recent graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts in Critical Studies. The advantage that USC (and Chapman) have is that they are where the action is. Internships and contacts are critical for film students. They are much easier to come by in LA than Tallahassee.

FWIW, I know a lot about colleges - they're both my vocation and avocation - and I haven't a clue what Chapman is. But national name recognition probably doesn't count for much in a field as specialized as this one.

Paying3tuitions' son is a screen writing student at Chapman. They have a nice looking film program: Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University

There's a lot of discussion about most of these schools on the forums at studentfilms.com - be careful to look for undergrad programs (assuming that is your interest) because there's a ton of discussion on masters programs. You might add UT Austin to your list. Like FSU, it's a very small program for undergrads, but reputedly very good.

If there's any chance of you being a National Merit finalist, that should put USC and Texas at the top of your list.

I don't believe it i got a bunch of replies ..UUUHHHUUUU!!!
I think i'm going to rule out FSU.
I'm still having trouble understanding if the northwestern radio/tv/film would be a better fit that the one offered by USC..
I will be applying to all these schools anyways. What about NYU program..i've heard is more focused on independent filmmaker.
Oh and yes i'm interested on udergrad.Tahnk you FauxNom i will be looking at that website.

The programs at NYU, and USC are the best. My cousin wants to study film so I know a little about it. American University is also good so you might want to look that up. If I were you I would go to USC just for the internships that you would have at your finger tips.

with my knowledge i think its good to rule out the others besides to NYU and USC. two of he top film schools in the country.. i think most people would say that. so i think you just need to visit both of these schools and determine which is the better fit to you becuase tey are VERY VERY different.

When you say different, are you talking about their programs?I know that the campus life are very different btw these two schools.i don't thinkm i would have problem living in any of these..i have lived in 4 different countries so i'm very independent. I heard that USC students are very snob and selfcentered is that true?I know that this is probably a stereotype.are film students in general friendly ?

Don't forget that you will get killed in the neighborhood; it's a rich kids' school; there are no intellectuals there; fraternities/sororities dominate everything; it way too preppy;athletics rule. Anything else you want to add? Geez.

If you get into USC's film school, by all means GO! It's the best of the best and the industry connections are phenomenal...The film school is where USC developed the the reputation as University of Special Connections.

From reading these boards, NU has a fantastic rep as well...lots of talent from NU...seems more actors/actresses etc. due to its theatre production.

Apply to them all and see where you get in...the choice will likely be made for you by the adcom committees.

I asked a simple question , i'm from south anerica i don't have a lot of knowledge about California and USC. You don't need to be rude in your post. I was just asking about things i've heard. On a side note i'm not scared of any american cities, like i have said i'm from one of the biggest and most violent south american cities.
I really appreciate all the help and comments..keep posting.

Another question that i have
Have any of you wise friends ever heard anything about the business program with a concentration in entertainment industry offered by USC? I'm a business student in a small college "near" Atlanta and as a backup plan if i don't get in their production program i might go for that business program .

bummmmmmppp

NYU doesn't have a real campus.

I'd go to USC...it's more of a real college experience. And their program is top-notch.
(And, no, the rumors typically AREN'T true...people are mostly friendly, and campus safety is tight.)

I've heard that the other larger schools (USC, for example) have wider admissions standards and allow more students. Many students are selected out along the way. At FSU, they do much more front-end selection and therefore very few are admitted, but more become successful at the end of the process and nearly all find work in the field (perhaps Tallahassee is not so bad for connections after all?).

FSU because of its small size is more harder to get into. On campus interviews are required for finalists. They have, in the past, gone to their wait list.

Etcheverry: Instead of being so defensive why don't you do some research on the the college-related forums.

Tsdad, i'm doing all i can. I have created a similar thread on the art major and USC section. Not successful at all. I have e-mail some of the faculty at USC, NYU and Northwestern and am waiting for a repply. I have gone through almost the entire undergrad film school discussion at studentfilms.com .
Here is where i stand as for today.

USC:
What i know:Top program(the best with NYU), Top notch facilities and equipments, Many Many connections with the industry, expensive and very selective school, Do not require previous experience in the field to be admitted.

What i want to know: Job placement. More about the Student life.Faculty student relation. Do professors make themselves accessible? I can't find any info about the business program with concetration in entertainment industry.

NYU:
What i know: Top program, better for independent filmmakers??, Campus is spread out(don't bother me), no school spirit, Very independent students, no holding hands, impressive faculty, good connections to the industry, Hard to get in, very talented and driven students, very expensive, good equipment, a lot of red tape.

what i want to know.More information about the program , how much technical and hands on is involved in their program, Faculty student relation(this is very important to me.the faculty need to be accesible), Sudent to student relationship. Are students too individualist, or they help each other. Job placement and internship.know more about the
+ and - aspects of the program.

FSU:

What i know: Famous school, very well regarded program, a lot of awards won by their students, amazing equipment and facilities, school pays for your film, Hard to get in, need to take 2 years of general education then apply to the school, talented and creative Faculty, small number of students, very hands on, although in florida it has good connections in NYC and LA.

What i want to know: More about those connections to LA and NYC, job placements, do they have a famous network like USC, and NYU? How is student life? Life in tallahassee, more info about the program itselfI think the information provided at their website is not enough.

Northwestern

What do i know:Amazing school in general, and good program in production. Chicago(i know the school is in evanston) has lots of going on as far as movies and tv show. Hard to get in.

What i want to know:Connections?? What is the difference btw theri radio tv film program ro the one offerd by USC?Not a lot of info about the faculty or the program. I would also like hear about weaknesses and strengths of the program.

bummmp!!!!!!!!!!
