Thoughts on Newhouse vs. UMaryland (College Park Scholars) vs. Penn State?........seeking info comparing programs, general school atmosphere, internships, etc.

Hi, I’m not a pro at this but since I know a girl who attends Newhouse, I can give you a brief about it. It’s considered one of the top journalism/communications program in the nation. She is currently a freshmen and she is dual majoring in journalism/international relations. She says it’s an awesome, rigorous program that really helps prepare her for her career. She says she is doing a ton of hands on activities with cameras, mics, reporting, etc. She also got a summer internship in NYC. She picked Newhouse over American University. Based off of what I hear from her, it’s an excellent school except the area is total crap.

I know another guy at Penn State Comm and he says it’s a really good program, not the best or renown like Newhouse, but he definitely says it’s up there is you want to go into Comm/Broadcast Journalism. He also got an internship in Philly and Boston.

I’m not too sure about UMCP…

I’d say you can’t go wrong with either. The area surrounding the school is a bit similar, but offer totally different atmospheres in terms of school spirit and teaching environment according to my friends. I would say go visit both and decide for yourself.
