Comparisons of top public schools for undergrad

I'm looking to get into med school for grad, and am currently looking at viable undergraduate schools. At first I was looking at schools like Cornell and Washington University (St. Louis), but I realized it's probably not that wise to spend so much money on a school for undergrad that could cripple my GPA.

So now I'm looking at decent public schools with good names that could help my chances for getting in Med School. I'm looking at University of Michigan, University of Virginia, Pennsylvania State University, as well as University of Buffalo (close to home), St.Bonaventure (for 8yr program into George Washington University) I'm also considering Northwestern and University of Rochester, both very expensive schools but I think would be very impressive if I could get in.

I'm a Canadian citizen, not American, so I think that could hurt my chances for financial aid, so that definitely is a factor. If anyone can give me any suggestions for deciding I would really appreciate :)

Both Buffalo and, even more so, Binghamton have excellent med school placement and are not in the stratosphere in terms of total cost, even for Canadian students.

The other publics you named are close to $50,000/yr
