Hey

I was wondering what are some top schools that have good theater programs for non theater majors.

So basically, HYPSM, and other top colleges, like Swarthmore, U chicago, UC Berkley and LA, Wash U, Brandeis, and other top 25 type schools

I really love theater, but I don't plan to major in it/ get a BFA. I would like to minor, or just take courses in theater, theater appreciation, direction, movement on stage and so forth.

I have high grades (3.96 UW, 4.2 W) High SATs (SAT I 2370, SAT II's 800, 790, 790) Good extracurriculars, lots of AP's, etc.

I know MIT has a great theater program and a theater minor, but I'm not sure I'm so into the technical focus of MIT

Is Yale too obvious an answer?

Yale is great for a graduate theater, not much for undergrad. I would go with Brown.

In the last century, the Bryn Mawr/Haverford community had a very active theater life but no majors. Things may have changed since then, but you could check those two places out.

NYU, USC, UCLA, Yale, etc…

Holy Cross has an outstanding Theatre Department. Last year they won the New England Theatre Conference’s (NETC) Moss Hart Award for best college play in New England. This is the second consecutive Moss Hart win for the Holy Cross theatre department.

Johns Hopkins has a wonderful program for a minor in theater–nice facilities too. [Johns Hopkins University Theatre](<a href=“Theatre Arts & Studies | Johns Hopkins University”>Theatre Arts & Studies | Johns Hopkins University)

Williams has a strong theater program. It’s a small department but very well funded with spectacular facilities and ample performance opportunities for non-majors.

The Williamstown Theater company, one of the most highly respected summer-stock repertory companies on the Eastcoast, is not directly related to the college but there’s a fair amount of interaction.
