Competition for Engineering schools?

Hello,

I am a high school junior from the Bay Area who is going to major in computer science, and I wanted to know who I would be competing against for college. In Berkeley for example, there is L & S and EECS. How do both of the processes work? If i apply for EECS, will I compete against all other engineering applicants, such as bioengineering and aerospace engineering?

For EECS, you will only be competing against other EECS applicants. For L&S, you will compete against all other L&S applicants regardless or major, because everyone who gets admitted to L&S is undeclared.

Just an FYI: by the time you apply to UCB for CS, the admission process may be different. There is a new admission policy under consideration where CS in the College of L&S is going to be a direct admit. This may happen starting with this admission cycle so still waiting to hear.

Since CS is so in demand and competitive, you need a direct admit at all the UC’s for a chance to pursue that major.
