i know all the eders are very interested in getting in but what then, does anyone here who is familiar with people in columbia no how the competition is and the difficulty of the classes for ex. our #1 from last yr. is at stanford and he has a c avg rite now is columbia the same

ok, I know you are typing online and all, but please at least include SOME puncutation. (I don't know about anyone else but I had to read this message about 3 times to get what he's asking) from what I've heard(from a friend) competition's ok, as long as you are doing your work you'll be fine

Your classmate doesn't have a C average at Stanford if he is putting in at least some effort. Grade inflation there is rampant, like at Columbia.

The competition at Columbia isn't present. It isn't a competitive school. People don't really stress about grades, back stab each other, etc. The difficulty of the classes will depend on what you take (i.e., american studies or physics). The grades are inflated in most classes. A C is very rare at Columbia. The average GPA is like 3.5.

Perhaps your classmate is an engineering major. At all colleges, engineering majors have lower gpas. In general, Columbia is known for less grade inflation than Stanford, but most people get As and Bs. Even in many physics and math classes, the median seems to be curved to a B rather than a C. There can still be a lot of work involved in getting those Bs and, especially, those As.

The sense I get from my kid is not that it's competitive, as in cutthroat, but that people tend to load up on classes rather than to coast. Also, the core requires students to take types of classes they might be able to avoid elsewhere if they wanted to.

In Engineering and Science, the curve at Columbia is 3.0 (lowest B-) not 3.33 (B).

grade inflation at columbia haha love to hear it truly

The curve is certainly higher than 3.0 even in intro science classes. The median is generally curved to B (sac is right), but people significantly below the median will get B-/C+'s rather than C-'s or D/F's.
