<p>What are some free summer competitions that are not too late to apply for?
I just finished Junior year and am mainly interested in the sciences, but would love to apply to any competitions out there. One problem: I'm having a hard time finding them </p>

<p>siemens definitely for science
but you have to have lab work to write a paper…
you COULD start now and cram it…
all the competitions are in the winter/spring so it’s too late</p>
<p>deadline for siemens is October 1st and you find out before you send in your apps for early</p>
<p>Does participation in Siemens look good (even if you don’t win)?</p>
<p>Also, doesn’t it depend on how long you do your research b/c if you’ve been doing this research project for 2 years isn’t there a better chance of winning as compared to someone who has only done this for 2-3 months?</p>
<p>Colleges won’t know (or care) if you simply participate. But it’s great if you get you’re at least a semifinalist.<br>
Judges emphasize the actual project and what you have discovered more than the duration of research. Someone may do 10 hours of research/ day & get the same amount of data in 3 months as another person does in a year.</p>
