Competitive Nature at Emory

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone who is currently a student at emory could tell me a little about how competitive it is. Grades are important to me, but I am not the type of person who wants to be surrounded by a bunch of grade crazy people. I work hard, but I also like to have a good time. Is that feasible at emory? Working hard and having fun?

Nobody will ever tell you that their college is full of people who never have fun and are cutthroat competitors.

Emory is chill. Maybe even too chill sometimes.

Really? wow okay thank you so much!!

“I work hard but I also like to have a good time.” I think that most Emory students would also describe themselves in that manner. You’d do just fine here.

This answer really depends on your major. Some classes/departments grade on a bell curve.

Just so we’re on the page, I mean that you shouldn’t expect any college student to ever say "“I work hard but I also like to have a bad time” or “I work hard and I hate doing anything but work”. So take all answers you get with a grain of salt.

Bell curves aren’t bad, in my opinion. Outside the cupcake majors, the end grades look like a bell or dumbbell anyway… A mediocre student would prefer bell, and a top student wouldn’t care.
