Competitive Transfer Student?

Anyone care to chance me? I was originally denied for reasons unknown for the Fall 2011 semester... re-applying for the Winter semester now... Let me throw some stats at you guys...

~Have dual-enrolled at a community college since I was 15, had 42 credits before I graduated

Bottom line, am I competitive Winter Transfer applicant? I applied two days after the application became available.

are you a freshman?

Yeah but I have a sophomore status…

Did you ever apply as a freshman? Or did you apply as a transfer straight out of high school? If you did as a freshman, I’m pretty surprise that you were not admitted because Michigan does care about GPA the most and your stats look excellent, I would be especially shocked if you were in state. The only thing I can say is that if you were denied with those stats as a freshman applicant, you will likely be again as a transfer because you will have absolutely no new grades to show to Michigan, it may have been better for you to apply as a sophomore applicant. I understand you have sophomore standing but people count you as a freshman based on what class you are and not how many credits you have. I have heard of people getting waitlisted and then admitted with only one additional semester of senior grades, what you are trying to do, but it is not easy to get in through this method. Most likely you will get in as a sophomore instead of halfway through your freshman year.

Thanks for replying… And I am in-state and a white male…and I know I will have a tough time of it, but someone has to fill those spots open in winter right? The only question I have now is whether or not I will be competitive for those spots.

Also I just received my AP Bio scores… As well as my gpa went up about a tenth and my academic all state was earned since my previous application…

Oh and I still have not answered your question, yes I applied in the Fall, was waitlisted and then denied after six months…

Well, it’s difficult to say but if you didn’t send it you senior grades at all, then I would say you have a legitimate shot at getting admitted. It will be difficult but those grades definitely help you in the transfer process. I think you should probably be mentally prepared to get rejected because, again, it is difficult for someone to get admitted after one semester. Still, definitely go for it and who knows, you may get lucky and get in.

Personally I dont think I should have to resort to “getting lucky” at all  but such is life I suppose. And I already submitted my application, two days after it became available actually, and sent in my transcripts a few weeks before that. Do you think it will help my chances to have everything submitted so quickly? Or hurt them by appearing so anxious?
