Is it just my parents or are there more parents out there who constantly bring up the fact that ucsb is a "party school?" Nothing positive I say about the school can change their minds to think it is a decent school. It's driving me insane.

I just told my parents that the party school reputation was one of the things I liked about it.

When i went to the UCSB Open house me and my dad counted how many times parents asked the question "Is UCSB A party school". 14. 14 times. I wanted to scream - there's partying EVERYWHERE. If you want to be part of a party scene, you will find it. Theres many reasons UCSB could be known as a party school. For one, Look at where it is? UCSB is beautiful. since Isla Vista is right next door to UCSB, where do you think all the kids are going to go to party? Goleta? Or Santa barbara....

Also, remember that there is a junior college that contains a lot of kids from Isla Vista who also party - its not just UCSB.

My favorite answer to this question I heard from one of the presenters on a panel he said " I want you to know that I've been teaching, attending, and visiting many schools in my life time and i can guarantee you that UCSB did not invent beer "

UCSB is one of the most respected schools int he nation. If you want an absolutely party-less school, go to a private commuter religious college in the middle of a field.

all my mom knows is that ucsb is the school i wanna go to. she was thrilled when i told her i got accepted, and had she known of its party reputation wouldnt have made a difference; shes just happy that i got into my 1st choice.

sit down w/ ur parents and tell them ucsb is the school u wanna go to, or just be bold like vertigo and let it all out :p

Tell your parents theyre being ignorant - it might not win them over but its true :D

my parents just want me to get into a UC except Riverside and Merced...so I applied all UC except SC and Riverside and got rejected by all except Merced and SB...so i choose SB and my parents are pretty happy about it

my parents know ucsb's a party school but they don't seem to really care. they're surprisingly lenient/trusting for asian parents.

same as me, my parents know it is party school, and they don't quite care, and i am asian too

My parents didn't really mind. I think they trust that I'm not going to anything stupid, and they've been to college themselves and they know what it's about. Then again, my parents have always been on easy on me, I even go alcohol shopping with my dad occasionally.

So I guess my parents are the only over-protective parents out there huh.. :-( I think it is because UCSB doesn't have the name nor reputation of other schools I was admitted to, but oh well!

GO GAUCHOS class of 2010!!!

well....maybe your dad read the new playboy mag thats out.....UCSB is the #2 party school in the nation. And girls from UCSB were nude in the mag. Its a great school, great education, but idk if it is respected by adults just yet.

my dad actually wanted me to go to UCSB instead of UCI or UCD because its math department is ranked higher. he doesn't know about its party-school rep, and i really hope it's not what it's cracked up to be in that manner. =

tell your parents that there is more to life than the classroom, and you're more likely to learn more about life by living it, having fun and making friends rather than studying 24/7...

haha my overbearing parents want me to go to UCI or Cal State Fullerton so they can torment me and be close to them! According to them, UC Santa Barbara is way too far (its only 3 hours away from where im at)
