I am a 22 year old undergraduate student who is about to finish up an AA in Fine and Performing Arts at a community college. When I started my degree, I was pretty naive and oblivious to how financial aid works and the worth of certain majors. My goal ultimately, was to pursue an art path and somehow enter the field of Industrial Design.

The problem now is that I have actually found an AAS Industrial Design program in the school that I'd like to transfer to that can later be advanced to Mechanical Engineering. I deeply regret my Art degree and wish I could have made a better decision. I am constantly wondering if a leap that big would even be allowed by the college. From painting, drawing and art history to engineer drawing, physics and pre-calculus.

My Problem With Federal Aid..

The idea I guess is that you can't complete an AA degree and then expect to get aid in an AAS degree.

I have been receiving federal aid for my current AA that I'm about to finish up, but would it be a problem if I pursued an AAS in Industrial Design rather than jump into a BA program? Or would it be a better idea to drop my nearly finished degree and transfer to start the AAS in Industrial Design?

I have posted in another forum from which I got the reply that federal aid will cover 150% of attempts towards the number of classes needed for a particular major, or 12 semesters. But what I'm doing is finishing an AA and starting an AS in a new direction! And that because of this, I will not be able to receive it if I just take another AA/AAS class in conjunction with my previous one. But would I get a renewed treatment of federal aid if I were doing a BA? I am hugely disappointed in myself and keep hoping that I can just smoothly transfer into Industrial Design and forget about my Fine Art past.. It is eating me up.
