Comprehensive List of Schools

Does anyone know where I can go to see a comprehensive list of schools offering a BFA MT program in my state? I am not sure we can afford out of state tuition and want to know where to find a simple list? I have looked and looked! It is hard to go to each individual college website and do this…I am exhausted!

@“#overwhelmedmama” pinned to the top of the forum is this list http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/801037-big-list-of-mt-colleges-by-state.html#latest But don’t automatically discount out of state schools, sometimes private out of state schools can be in the same price range as in state schools after factoring in aide.

There are also at least a few public schools that offer in-state tuition even for out-of-state students in theatre. Texas State, Montclair State immediately come to mind. If you’re in Maryland or Delaware, for instance, Coastal Carolina and West Virginia offer in-state tuition for Musical Theatre because there are no MT schools in MD/DE. There is a similar exchange for some Midwest schools as well.

Also, a lot of public and private universities offer automatic merit aid based on test scores/grades as well as talent scholarships that you may be able to stack and it may end up less expensive than in-state tuition. Also, some regions of the country offer special tuition rates for neighboring states. An example of this is WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) where some western region schools offer discounts to other states, but may be based by grades or major. I know there are others.

University of Utah gives you the opportunity to establish residency over your first summer and then qualify for in-state tuition.

Bottom line, don’t assume in-state is your lowest or one of your lowest options, although you may quality for in-state scholarships/grants only by going to school in your state.

SIU Carbondale did away with out-of-state tuition; everyone has the same (pretty low, comparatively) rate. And I don’t know where you are, but Valdosta State University in Georgia gives instate tuition to all surrounding states (Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee) VSU is a BFA in Theatre with a concentration in MT, though… I think border state waivers are pretty common among state schools.
