Computer and Information Science

I'm currently a sophomore at Ohio State University in Columbus and am majoring in biology. So far, all my classes, including chem and bio, have been going well. But, the more classes I take, the more I begin to realize that I'm not very happy with biology as a whole. It isn't that it's too difficult, it's that I don't find it very interesting. I'm beginning to feel as if I don't have any enthusiasm for it.

For the past few months I've been really interested in a major that OSU offers called Computer and Information Science. I've always loved computers and technology and feel as though I would enjoy working with them for a living. I know it's tough to pick a major on a "whim," but isn't trying different things what college is about?

I would go for a B.S., which focuses on computer programming, software development, etc. The problem is, it is a program you need to apply to get in to. When I checked further, it appears as if most students trying for the major apply by the end of their freshman year. I'm worried it may be too late to even look in to switching. Does anybody have any information or experience with a situation like this? Any help with my problem would be greatly appreciated.

I’d recommend you still try. Staying in biology may have a negative effect on your future career.

I would absolutely look into it. I’m sure many students don’t decide until Soph year. You might be able to start with some CS classes next semester that are open to non majors just to get started which will lessen your load later.
