Computer Engineering at the following schools...

Can someone rank the computer engineering programs at these schools from 1-8?

Rutgers
Stony Brook University
UMD - College Park
Villanova
Boston University
Bucknell University
Cornell
Johns Hopkins

Also, does UMDCP have a good CE program in general? Because I think it is my match because I want to make sure before fully deciding to commit there.

I only know SB and Cornell. No dobut Cornell is excellent. SB is very good too. The CS graduate program is excellent, and I think that would also make the undergraduate excellent. The school, however, is facing budget cut (the entire state university system).
I don’t know the rest. Rutgers, it’s a good school in general.
What are your expectations of the program? What do you want out of the program? Do you prefer to be around the city, middle of no where, or middle of the city?

I’m only familiar with Johns Hopkins. Computer Engineering at JHU is part of the ECE department, and the requirement is half CS and half EE courses. The EE courses are pretty good and image analysis seems to be its major area of strength. In CS, the strong areas are the computer surgery lab (which you should check out, if you get the chance) and the natural language processing center. Graphics and vision are also strong areas.

In general, I’d recommend JHU, Cornell, and UMCP for engineering.

I would say the top 3 as Cornell, Bucknell and UMCP. I go to UMCP for CompE now and they do have a pretty good program.

^^^ Thanks everyone!

Does anyone know about CompE at Villanova?

I don’t know about the actual academic traits of Villanova’s CompE program for what it is worth, I have personally worked with a Villanova CompE grad on 3 separate occasions and they were sharp to me.

I looked at Nova when I was applying to schools. I thought it was a pretty solid program. I think that the program is pretty comparable to the others academically but it doesn’t have research funding as some of the others. Go and visit the schools and ask to talk to the CompE faculty, I did and was able to really get a feel for the programs that way.
