Computer Sci major current school choices - UMBC, RIT, Va Tech JMU,

Son is a solid student driven by end result.
Not really concerned with rah- rah school spirit stuff.
Grades weren't extremely high enough for GIT or Carnegie Mellon. I need help figuring out these schools.
My concerns are below. Anyone who has any insight into computer science and these schools please respond!! thanks!!

RIT= not sure it has a big reputation for computer sci
UMBC = is local and seems great academically might thrive there but absolutely seems like there is no balance or life outside class (would like a little bit of that for my son).
Va Tech= for some reason didn't get into Comp Science dept. that might be underneath engineering school and he got a randomly placed in Business Information Tech department - not sure if its hard to transfer into Comp Sci once there.
JMU = my friends son went there and graduated with honors and did well has a great starting job in Comp. Sci. making $80k as a 22 year old. But I've heard they party a lot.

I can’t speak to the comp. science major or RIT, but we are also local to UMBC, which is a great achool, but which still seems to clear out on weekends, and has a lot of commuters. (Local kids who go to College Park are more likely to live there, and stay there on weekends compared to kids at UMBC. We live fairly equal distance between the two.)

Our local high school sends a lot of kids to VA-Tech, UMBC and JMU. I don’t think kids party any more at JMU than they do at VA-Tech or UMBC. None of the three schools stand out as being more or less a party school than the others.
