Computer Science & Business Majors in Ivys(and other great schools)

I am contemplating some of the decisions I have to make concerning my ED choice.

For the majors I intend on pursuing, I am planning on applying early action to state schools such as UIUC and UMich. However, when it comes to the ED choice for private schools, I am unsure.

Out of all the Ivy’s which school provides the best of both worlds (so to speak) in both of my intended majors? I have been obsessed with Penn since my sophomore year in high school and even interned there during the summer. Until now, I was certain that that is the school that I should ED to.

After considering that other schools are better for computer science ie. Cornell, Columbia, Duke, CMU and also have great business programs, I am not sure where my best bet is to apply.

I would appreciate any and all advice on this matter.

I expect you realize that some of the schools you listed don’t offer undergrad majors in Business per se. Is that going to be ok?

For your CS studies, you sound very entrepreneurial so this article might be helpful.

Good luck!

That is okay. Plainly put, what I want to know is a rough approximation of the biggest “bang for my buck” for which Ivy has the best computer science program, in which I will have curriculum and connections for a personal project?

@abmp22 Since you are interested in CS+Business you should look into the M&T dual degree program at Penn. It is very hard to get in, but it is definitely a top opportunity for people interested in engineering and tech (people routinely turn down even places like Stanford and MIT to attend M&T). Or you could just do an uncoordinated dual degree between Penn SEAS and Wharton if you are not able to get into M&T. It is essentially the same curriculum.

Regardless of M&T though, Penn definitely has the best balance of both worlds. They only ivies with meaningfully better CS programs than Penn are Princeton and Cornell. Columbia does not have a meaningfully better CS program and Duke definitely doesn’t have a better CS program than Penn. Also while some of these schools might have some business offerings none of them compare to Wharton really.

The only ivy that rivals Penn for the CS/business combo would be Harvard, because of its strong tradition in both CS and business. Also in terms of entrepreneurial activity and infrastructure Penn and Harvard seem to be leading the pack amongst the ivies.

Thank you Penn95, that is a good response, one that I will take into account. I feel good about my decision to ED to Penn.
