I am currently attending community college and am looking at schools to transfer to. I am naturally looking at the ones highly ranked but I am also looking for schools that have strong Japanese programs as well as christian background. Am I being unrealistic or is there some school that you can think of. Thank you.

I think you might be able to get two out of three on that list.

What constitutes a strong Japanese program?

noleguy33: That was what I figured but I didn’t want it to be true. The main combination that I was interested in was Christian/Japanese and I didn’t find any that places well. Did I miss one?

boneh3ad: A strong Japanese program must at least have a major in it, four years of classes, a strong study abroad program (especially for CS), and would allow me to go study technical Japanese somewhere like the UW or MIT should I choose.

Would BYU or U. Notre Dame qualify?

They usually have good schools. Loyola Marymount is close to where I live in Los Angeles & it has a strong reputation around here. They always tend to be on the pricey side, though.

Loyola Marymount does not offer a major in Japanese.

Usually, when folks refer to ‘Christian’ schools, they are referring to conservative Protestant schools such as Liberty, Wheaton (IL), etc, not Catholic universities.

Don’t know which definition OP intended.

Gonzaga? Okay not perhaps what one thinks of when they think of ‘christian school’ but a Catholic school and hey, Catholics are christians And well, it is hard to get everything.

Nice size. Located in Spokane Washington. I’ve read good things about on CC.

They have a computer science program, engineering, as well as what looks like a serious Japanese program. Also study abroad program with Japan. Going by their website, all of these look pretty extensive:

<a href=“College of Arts & Sciences | Gonzaga University”>http://www.gonzaga.edu/academics/colleges-and-schools/College-of-Arts-and-Sciences/Majors-Programs/Modern-Languages/Japanese/default.asp

Also what about Whitworth? Christian college in Washington state. Offers CS, but also with an international option. No Japanese language, and closest is Asian Studies major.
