Computer Science. Foothill College or Santa Monica College?

Hey, I am a foreign student who is going to study in America this Fall. My major is Computer Science. I intend to transfer to one of the UCs. Now I am to choose between Foothill College and Santa Monica College. I have a few questions to ask.

I read on the news that SMC is so crowded that some students delayed for one extra year because they couldn't get the classes they need. Is that really so? How is the situation in Foothill?

The cost of living of which place would be higher?

In all, which college would be better for me?

Please give me some advice.

I would suggest you go to Foothill College. It is a quality school and classes are not that hard to get into. Cost of living in California in general is quite expensive. You will probably have to spend $1000 on food and rent each month and around $10,000 a year for tuition as a full-time student.

Go to Foothill and take CS class with Micheal Loceff, Kathleen O’Brien or Ladwna Meade. You won’t be disappointed. They also have Berkeley counselors to help you if you intend to transfer to UCB after 2-3 years. Needless to say, if your goal is to transfer to UCLA/USC, SMC is a better choice.
