Computer Science in McCormick vs. Weinberg

Hi I’m an international student and I plan to apply to the computer science program in NU. But I’m wondering that if I apply to the CS program in Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, it will be easier for me to be admitted? And I’ve seen on some other forums that if you’re good at math or physics then you should go into McCormick? ( I’m probably good at math and physics.)

Hi, I am also an international student applying to NU ComputerScience and I had the same dilemma. I even emailed the admissions office to inquire and their reply was the generic reply “Both programs are taught by renowned professors with access to state of the art facilities, explore our website to find out which one matches your interest.”

I then emailed Ian Horswill, an associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and his reply was kind of specific. He said the CS programs in both schools are exactly the same. So the question is whether you prefer the liberal arts thing; like the foreign language, and writing requirements or Engineering staff like - I don’t even know.

So if the question is which one is easier to get into… Nobody is going to say that because the engineering faculty doesn’t sit in the admissions committee for CS at Northwestern so I would say if you are the science guy, try out McCormick but if your profile fits the liberal arts guy then Weinberg it is.

if you’re a STEM person that never wants to touch a book again you will hate Weinberg CS. if you hate writing, reading, humanities thinking definitely pick McCormick CS and never look back
