Title. I'm just curious. There are a lot of courses I wanna take, enough to push me to an average of 18 credits a semester sans freshman year. Do you have any time for relaxation, occasional parties or events, etc.?

I’m not CS, but am engineering and I did 18 my first, and second, semester and it was/is totally manageable. Of course its completely different from high school and you will need really good time management skills. (although to be honest I haven’t exactly adjusted that well, yet haha) There was more than enough time for relaxing, parties, events, everything.

Mind telling me a bit more? Like, how is it different than high school (aside from scheduling and advance knowledge of due dates), and what’s the trickiest part of time management? I’m forearming myself like a mother****er, and any tips you could give would be strongly appreciated.

Also, are you gonna be on Stony Brook’s Engineering chat tonight? I will be.

CSE courses are really tough, and they require a lot of time and dedication. It’s impossible to take 3-4, 300 level CSE courses at one shot. Hell, don’t get too excited. Just equally balance out your semester. Take 1-2 CSE courses, and squeeze in easy DEC’s. CSE is one of the most challenging majors on campus. For instance, if you’re taking CSE219, you don’t want an overloaded semester. Strategically plan your semester, hang out with U3-U4 students and ask for advice.

Caveat:
Don’t overload yourself. 18-19 credits aside from being detrimental, will ruin your dream of even getting into the major.

I’ve already been accepted to the major. And not all the courses I wanna take are CSE. I also want to minor in business management and take a few other courses like sound design, scriptwriting…

Also,
-What exactly makes the CSE major so difficult?
-And what about the math courses that go with it?
-What would you say are easy, but still fulfulling DECs, aside from E and C? (I’m going to try NOT to take the main BIO or CHE sequences for the major after the one-year Physics sequence)
-What about other people who’ve told me that 18 credits is manageable for a CS major? I was at the CEAS chat the other day, and two people there (one a CS major, one a CEAS advisor) told me I could handle it if I managed my time well.
