Computer Science options as MechE Major?

Hello!

I was recently admitted to Berkeley’s class of 2021 under the Mechanical Engineering major. I am definitely interested in Mechanical Engineering, but I also want to explore computer science to develop a solid coding background—which would be great for startups in the local area. My question is, should I strive for the entire Computer Science minor, or will taking just a few CS classes be good enough to be employable at programming jobs (most likely just CS61A, B, and C)—I don’t know if the minor is overkill and I would be taking too many classes at once (it requires 7 classes). I would love any advice. Thanks!

Just CS 61A, B, and C probably won’t be enough for software engineering jobs.
Would you consider double majors? My son is doing EECS and ME right now.

@StevenToCollege I think a double major is a bit too much. Would the CS minor be able to land me a programming job?
