Any CS majors at SLO want to tell us how they like the program?
How many graduate in 4 years? 5 years?

Can you have any fun there or are you totally bogges down with work?

Can you understand your professors? (actually a problem when we asked the students at UC Irvine).

thanks

My son just graduated from Cal Poly in 4 years as a CPE major. He had lots of fun both with his classes and with his extracurriculars. Professors were excellent for the most part.

His good friend will graduate with a CS degree in 4 years + 1 quarter. Reason for the late graduation was too many quarters taking only 12 credits - his choice, not due to scheduling difficulties.

There are many reasons why students don’t graduate in 4 years, not all of them having to do with not being able to get into required classes. Some students aren’t prepared for CPE/CS as incoming freshmen and have to repeat some of the intro courses, which makes it difficult to stay on track. Others take time off for internships, or don’t choose to take 16-18 credits/quarter.

Thank you for the info. My first son was accepted for cs but went to USC instead. I think cal poly would be a better fit for my younger son though.
Did your son consider Santa Clara u? I see u live near there and people tote how it would be good for cs because of its location.

My son applied to SCU but withdrew his application after he got into Cal Poly as an ED applicant. It’s a good school but would have been very expensive. The geography isn’t that much of an advantage over Cal Poly as there are many Bay Area companies that make the drive down to SLO to recruit students. Cal Poly has job fairs every quarter and good students have no problem finding internships.
