Computer Science

Is it necessary or does it give you a leg up if one takes AP Comp Sci during high school if applying to seas? If so how much of an advantage?

It will probably give you more of a leg up when you get here.

There are two intro level computer science courses. CIS120 and CIS110. CIS110 is for those with no programming experience at all. CIS120 is for those with programming experience, including AP Computer Science. I don't think AP credit get's you out of this class.

While it's entirely up to the student which one they enroll in, there's a quiz at the beginning of CIS120 and if you do poorly on it, the teacher recommends for you to drop down into 110.

In short, having the AP class on your transcript won't really make a difference to your placement here. It all depends on how well you know the material/how fast you think you can catch up to everyone else in 120.

ok thanks.
