Computer

Any guidance on what computer to get?

Something with windows on it for starters.

Yes know that. Mac not good for Kelley. At Orientation were we told where we could get computers? I forget.

our son got a macbook pro non-retina, at the apple store. he can download office for mac’s free from iuware. from what we were told that should work fine for kelley students.

Iudad, were you told that by a Kelley student? There’s nothing wrong with a Kelley student having a mac, many do obviously, but your son cannot use office for mac in certain Kelley courses. K201 and X201 are the one’s he probably will take freshman year. For those courses, the computer must actually boot into Windows. It’s not a problem and many Kelley students get by just fine with macs, but he’ll need to use school computers for those classes.

Or he could just have his mac boot into windows, but a lot of people don’t like to do that.

I do everything on my Asus tablet. I rarely use my Samsung Ultrabook or Asus desktop.

I was told that by one of the IT guys at their booth at orientation, plus it was brought up in one of the kelley sessions we attended. using bootcamp was never mentioned, nor was the requirement of having to actually log into windows for a particular class

Have your son go to indiana.edu/~busk201 and log in to look at the syllabus. It says: ‘No Macintosh software will be or can be used in this course. If a student has a MAC that MAC must actually boot into Windows and use Office 2010 ( No virtual or windows or simulated environments)’.

Doesn’t Bootcamp allow you to boot up into Windows from a Mac? And can’t you get Bootcamp and MS Office for free from IU?

Yes, you can use boot camp, but a lot of Mac users ive talked to refuse to because they say it slows your computer. I am almost certain it is not free at IU.

Most Kelley students I know just bootcamped their macs for K201
