Computers/Software at wharton

Hi:

I am currently researching a laptop to buy, as I will be entering Penn this fall (wharton '12). On the computer buying guide, they suggest things like vista ultimate and microsoft office 2007.

Is Vista Ultimate necessay? I am looking at one that has Home Premium...is that enough??

Also, is Microsoft Home and Student '07 (which is basically powerpoint, excel, and word) enough software-wise??

Finally, do most wharton students carry their laptops around?? I am planning on getting a laptop with a 16.4" screen.

Thanks!

vista ultimate isn't necessary; you'll be fine with home premium (bribe an engineer to give you free vista business if you really want).

you should be fine with powerpoint, excel, and word.

a lot of students like the convenience of carrying their laptops around to class, or to the libraries, or group meetings - a 16.4" screen laptop may be too bulky for easy transport

do a lot of the students just take notes directly onto their laptops in class, or do some professors prefer no computers on in class (considering students might be surfing facebook, etc.)?

it's a mix of both, really; depends on prof
