How safe is the area around the university? I am very concerned because I have heard bad things for example Tulsa has higher crime rates and that some parts are run down? So is the area near university of tulsa safe?

Thanks in advance...

Like any urban campus, at Tulsa you need to be aware and use common sense. A female should not walk alone at night on campus. You should always be aware of your surroundings, etc. Again, this is not unique to Tulsa but the same issue you find at almost any urban campus. Also, you need to lock your doors when you leave your room. My son has his laptop stolen his first week at school two years ago. People are all new and no one stands out as a stranger because everyone is getting to know everyone else. A guy from town was acting like a student and pretending to look for someone and then got to my son’s room (who left the door unlocked) and slipped in and stole the laptop and left while my son was in the lobby of the House. Later others remembered that a guy was going in rooms and if someone was there he would say, “Oh, wrong room, I was looking for somebody”. Anyway, that is the only incident my son has had and he said he feel safe on campus, but I think for a women especially they remind you to never walk alone at night (if you need an escort you just call campus security and they will come right to where you are and escort you (if you need to leave a lab late at night, etc.)
