Concern with FAFSA and Cal Grant. Will I receive full amount?

Hi everyone! Thanks in advance for those replying!

I’ve been accepted to SFSU for Fall 2017 ( transfer student from CC majoring in Environmental Science).
I’ve been looking into how much I need to cover both my housing and tuition which accumulates about to $18,400.
My EFC is $0.

Break Down:
Housing:$11,888 (UPS single occupancy furnish) https://housing.sfsu.edu/sites/default/files/assets/forms/FeeSchedule.pdf
Tuition: $6484 (full academic year) http://bursar.sfsu.edu/content/important-fee-information-11

I know I am able to receive the full amount for the Pell Grant and I have just applied for the Cal grant.
From what I understood from the SFSF website states that if a student receives a Cal Grant (either A or B) they are unable to receive the State University Grant (SUG).

I’m also planning to apply for the subsidized loan (max $7,500) hoping to cover everything. here is what I’m assuming will cover if I receive both full amount of the grants plus applying for a loan.

Pell Grant: $5815
Cal Grant A: $5472
Loan: $7500
Total: $18,787

My question is, will I be able to receive the full amount for the Cal grant A ( approximately $5472) or will it be partial?
Also I’ve read from other threads that they were only able to receive Cal Grant B (only $1,656) which I dont want. Will I be able to choose which Grant I want or do they decide which grant to approve?
has anyone been in the same situation or has been only able to get a partial award even with a EFC of $0

Sorry I can’t help much regarding the Cal grant, but would it be possible to find a roommate to share an apt with? Does the rent include utilities as well? You are also going to need money for food and books. Is the apt close to campus?

I know Pell and loan can cover living expenses, but not sure if Cal grant and university grant will cover your whole tuition and fees.

The housing you’ve selected dosn’t include a meal plan.

@mommdc San Francisco is an expensive place to live and the cheapest place would be to dorm at the SFSU campus. Yes, the dorm will include utilities. I have some money saved up for just food and hoping I can rent books at a much cheaper price.

@mlm No, it doesnt I have some money saved up for food.

If your EFC is zero and you are getting a Pell grant, then it is likely that you will receive the Cal Grant A, which has a need-based component. Look on the Cal Grant or Cal State websites for specifics though. I know there was a gpa requirement for freshman but forget if there were other requirements. Not at all sure how it is applied to transfers.
