Concerned About High School Class Rank.

I just joined to mainly post this, as it’s been my biggest concern this year, so I apologize if this is in the wrong category or something. Basically, I’m really worried about my class rank. Because I do my work I ended up 4th freshman and on the verge of top 10 last year, sophomore year, in 7th. This is out of 69 students, so it’s not impressive. I’ve always gotten all A’s. However, this year, that changed. I did horribly in AP Chem and ended the semester with an 84 and for Pre-AP Pre-Cal I got an 87-88. I know for sure I’ve dropped, as just now I’m pretty certain they called the top ten to the office, and I wasn’t one of them, plus, of course my grades have dropped. All others are A’s except for those two, and they are killing me. I do take Dual Credit and have taken PAP classes, but I don’t think it did much for me this year. Basically, what I’m asking is if it’s possible to make a comeback senior year? Or even this second half of junior year? I want to improve and I want to at least be seventh again, but I don’t know if it’s even possible. I don’t even know how much I have dropped this year due to those two grades. I feel like I’m now 12th or something and I don’t know what to do. I can put fourth the effort and I can put fourth the work, I always have reached deadlines and done what I need to do. I just don’t know if I have enough time to get back up there. Next year I will also be taking AP and Dual Credit courses, but so will the top ten, so I don’t know if it’ll do much at all. Sorry this is so long, I’m kind of panicking and I realize this all sounds super gloomy but I really don’t know how else to word this at the moment. Thank you if you see this or if you answer it. Again, apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

Do you live in Texas or are aiming for a college or scholarship that is highly class rank sensitive?

Yeah, I live in Texas and one of the colleges I’m interested in is based heavily upon class rank so that’s also why I’m worried.

Are you targeting UT Austin or the more competitive majors at Texas A&M College Station, where 12/69 rank may be problematic?

Most other Texas public universities do not appear to be as competitive.

Yup, UT Austin is my main choice but secondary choice is UTSA which I know isn’t too competitive. I’m trying to get my rank up for that college but I don’t think it’ll be possible by the end of next year to get in, unless I have /amazing/ SAT/ACT scores.

Edit: my class rank is actually 8th as of today, they just checked it so it’s not as low as I thought, but because our class size is now 62 only 6 people are considered top 10 so I’m two ranks away from top ten

UTSA uses a 25% cutoff. UTA used a top 6% cutoff this year, and might be 5% next year. So you’re fine for UTSA, and for UTA you need to be ranked 3rd or higher.

Thanks for the info, wasn’t aware about the fact that I needed to be ranked 3rd, so I appreciate it
