Hi! I am a sophomore and tomorrow I will be getting my transcript with my rank on it. Last year, I was ranked 49 out of 395 which isn't really competitive because I am planning to apply to uber selective schools. This year, I got really high grades so I expect to be in the top 30. I am sooooo nervous because all my friends are probably in the top 5% and I don't want them to think less of me because I have such a low rank. i am also super nervous because I am wondering how it would look to college admissions. Suggestions??

Oh, and I am planning on applying to Kenyon College, Ohio State University, Tulane, Tufts, Boston College, UChicago, Notre Dame, Miami U, Emory, and NYU.

Dude, you’re just a sophomore, so relax. As long as you take enough APs in your junior and senior years, you’ll be fine. I’m a sophomore too and I’m only 42/895. It could be worse!

“and I don’t want them to think less of me because I have such a low rank.”

If they were really your friends, they wouldnt judge you by such a frivoulous thing. You sound like a very smart student, so dont worry. You will be an excellent canidate for the colleges of your choice!

Just take a seat, stay calm, and STUDY! You’re a sophomore in high school. It’s totally not a major deal yet, so just lay back and ensure that you ahve good grades throughout this year and next. Your senior year should be no different, but at that point you can relax a little and just hope for the best.
I’m a senior in high school, number 2 out of 52. Not competitive at all, but I’m still not worried. I got into my college of choice. You will too as long as you stay focused.

Being Val is a big bump, and being somewhere else near the top (2-5 or so) is probably also helpful. After that, the arbitrary top 10% cutoff is the only thing that matters.

Hey, it could be worse. You could be at a really small school and only have 33 people in your entire class! (I know I’m not in the top 3-no top 10% for me!)
