Well, as a student entering college in Georgia, I'd like to be able to take advantage of the HOPE scholarship. I don't like UGA's huge size and I was more impressed by Tech's academic standards when I visited the campus, and that price tag is certainly attractive (particularly compared to some of the other colleges I'm interested in).

On the other hand, I'm not interested in anything having to do with engineering. And I got a huuuuuge impression when I visited that if you didn't want to become an engineer of some sort, Tech was Not For You. I noticed that those non-engineering options that the school did offer all seemed to be centered around... I suppose you could call it practicality, or things of concrete use. I wasn't really thrilled by the lack of options that didn't center around technology; as someone whose interests tend to circle widely around behavior/language/cultures, I'm more interested in a college that has got good programs in those areas, and I just didn't see much evidence for them at Tech.

So, is Tech just an engineer's haven? Or has it got something else to offer?

Tech definitely has more to offer. I am a biology major and although yes engineering is the most popular major most of my friends are international affairs majors, management majors, and even a couple of foreign language majors. Tech has great programs in all of these fields, its just that nobody talks about it as much because the engineering ranking is so impressive.

Research the curriculum requirements, I believe that Tech requires everybody, regardless of major, to take two calculus courses and a two semester science sequence. That's one of the reasons my daughter refused to apply, she didn't want a school were science was the most important concept regardless of major. As her parents, we wished she could have gotten past that. If you have HOPE, Tech has got to be one of the best academic bargains in the country.

you don't have to take two calculus courses. yes you do have to take a math though. http://www.registrar.gatech.edu/students/hum.php

georgia tech also have science requirements as well as english, government, humanities, and social science requirements, this does not make georgia tech engineering only. if you want to be an international affairs major you will only take 4 classes of "science and math" courses. this is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry small compared to most colleges. since tech is a technology school they start you off in your major as fast as possible. if you go to a liberal arts school she will have to take many more pre-requisite classes before ever taking the classes that she went there to take. at most colleges its about a years worth of classes compared to 4.

I heard Georgia Tech is ranked 44th in their undergraduate management program while UGA is ranked 56th.
