I am a rising senior and am wondering if and/or where to apply ED. I fell in love with Northwestern, but the net price calculator results were disappointing and did not make it a feasible option for my family. My second choice was Dartmouth, as I visited over the summer with my dad (he is an alum of Dartmouth) and loved it. The NPC was very generous, and it is by far the most sensible option of my reach schools.
However, I have a few misgivings. Firstly, I am not a big partier, so the emphasis on Greek life makes me a bit worried. Will this isolate me from my peers in any way?
Secondly, I love theatre and would like to be involved with it during my college years. I do not want to pursue acting professionally, but I would like a career focusing on the business/policy side of this field. Do you think that attending Dartmouth will help me pursue a career in arts administration?
While Greek life is big at Dartmouth, it is still very possible and easy to have a social life without partying. The Housing communities, LLCs, and the many clubs or organizations on campus are very close. Not sure about arts administration but the arts at Dartmouth are great
I attended Wesleyan University in the 80’s as an English major, and started my career in arts administration. I’m currently a parent of a 20 at Dartmouth. From my perspective, Dartmouth could provide excellent preparation for work in arts administration for multiple reasons: 1) the arts scene at Dartmouth is thriving; 2) the Hanover community is full of retirees with sophisticated tastes in the arts; 3) Dartmouth also has a business school; 4) Dartmouth has numerous well known graduates in the arts; 4) Dartmouth has resources to help you find excellent internships via alumni at arts organizations all across the country; 5) Dartmouth has outstanding courses in literary, visual, performing and media arts.
