Concert Attire for male vocalists

My son is going to be at Tanglewood this summer. They are requesting he bring a tuxedo or a black suit. From the pictures I can find it would appear most have a tuxedo. He is then going to be a freshman in a BM program at an university. My husband and I are trying to decide if we should go ahead and buy him a tuxedo or wait and see what he might need at college etc. Is it pretty common for classical singers to own a tux throughout college or would he rarely use it? Also, does the style of the tux or suit matter? What do most kids do? Thanks!

My son just finished his freshman year as a VP BM major. We bought him a tux his senior year of HS, and he brought it to college with him. There was a local company that sold a decent tux for $150 so it was not a big investment. He also has a blue suit. He has used the tux though he uses the suit much more. In fact, we are going to get him a second suit this summer so he has some variety. If you go the tux route, I would get a classic style.

My son is a musician. He owned a tuxedo and shirts. His nicest one was a designer brand…perfectly altered to fit him it seemed…that we bought at Goodwill for all of $20.

So…check resale stores as well.

My kid went to BUTI as well…but for that, I honestly don’t remember whether he took his tux or not. Definitely had a black suit…but you know…those aren’t a bargain either!

Look at photos of ensembles on the music school website. In my Ds University, all black pants and shirts for men is most common in VP.
