Confidentiality in Admissions Essays

Hi,

In my common app, I want to write about being physically disciplined (abused?) as a child up until the age of 12. However, I do not want admissions officers to call CPS on my family ( I do not resent my parents for doing so and in fact I have a rather close relationship with them now). Do admissions officers keep the information in the common app or supplemental applications confidential and does anyone know if they are obligated to report something like this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

What is the overall point of the essay?

I know you were the victim, but it generally isn’t a good idea to write about anything illegal in your college essays.

i don’t see that as an esssy topic that makes them want you on campus. Maybe best to brainstorm more for other topics.

The point behind an essay is to “give them a reason to say yes.” How does your essay do that?

As to your question, I don’t think the reader is under any sort of promise of confidentiality. So, while I think it’s an incredible long shot, I wouldn’t rule out the idea that someone could take this further.
