so i checked my student center and finally was assigned an advisor and my AP scores were posted on the Transfer Credit Report. but I'm confused as to what the whole table means.

for some of the tests the status says "posted," some say "rejected" and some say "no rule"

the "rejected" ones are art history and world history, which I'm assuming is just because cornell doesn't offer credit for those. the "no rule" ones are SAT and SAT II scores.

but of the ones that say "posted" and have an "equivalent course" and "grade" assigned to them, which I initially assumed meant that I got credit for, seem to be mixed between some that say 3 or 4 "units" (credits?) and some that say "0," and I'm not sure what that means?

do I only get credit for the scores that have an assigned number of units or do I get credit for the scores that say they are "posted" and have an "equivalent course" assigned

it looks something like this:

Test...Grade...Status...Equivalent Course...Units...Grade

European History...5...Posted...HIST 9999...4...S
English Lit and Comp...4...Posted...ENGL 1100C...0...S
Econ Micro...4...Posted...ECON 1110...3...S
Econ Macro...4...Posted...ECON 1120...0...S
Govt and Polt...5...Posted...GOVT 1111...3...S
Calc AB...5...Posted...MATH 1110...0...S
Stats...5...Posted...MATH 1710...0...S
US Hist...5...Posted...HIST 1530...4...S

does anyone know what this means?
why would I only get 14 credits when I have more scores that would qualify?
why would I get credit for Econ Micro and not Econ Macro when i got the same score on both tests?
and is there any way to use different credits? I'd much rather get credit for Econ Macro and Stats than for Euro and US Hist because I am interested in history and would much rather take history classes than stats/econ.

That’s incredibly odd…I got 3 credits for English Lit.
Maybe your AP policy depends on what school you’re in?
Or it could just be a glitch.

It does depend on which school you are in.

For example I am only allowed 15 credits in HumEc so even though I could have received more credit, I only get to use 15.

If that is what is happening here, you definately should be able to pick and choose which credits to use and which not. I would say to call and get it worked out asap

Ouch, that kinda sucks. I’m in engineering and I can use all 26 of my AP credits.

oh thanks suzie i guess thats what it must be, since i’m in HumEc too.
that does suck a lot haha, i probably wouldve gotten around 29 credits or so…

but I do hope that I can pick which ones I want to use, since I would really prefer to take History classes at Cornell rather than have to take Econ and Stats, which are required for my major.
i’m guessing that “posted” means that my score meets the requirements to use the credit if I want?

but is it necessary that I choose which credits to use asap or can I change them later? because I’m not sure which track within my department I would like to do (design or communications) and the requirements are a bit different for each of those…if i were doing design I’d want to use my Stats score, but if I was doing management I’d rather take Stats at Cornell and use my Calc score instead (both are required)

also, who am I supposed call to get this stuff worked out?

@alamode

you would call the registrar for humec to get it worked out.

only thing that might make a difference right away is if you wanted to use your English to get out of a FWS. that is what I did so I am not taking a FWS until Spring.

Does a 4 on AP English Lit and Comp place you out of one FWS? I thought only a 5 can do that.

Nope, it doesn’t get you out of one FWS, but it does get you 3 credits in English.

oh, sorry. I overlooked that. i was thinking a 4 or 5.

so what can we do with that 3 credits in English?
can I use it to place out of an english course such as AEM 2000, or any other random english class that’s part of the college distribution requirement?
