Also: Should I take the ACT again?

I think that everything on your lap looks excellent, however for University of Chicago I know many students at my school and others that were accepted at ivies but rejected or waitlisted at UofC. It is a lot tougher than a lot of people think so watch out. I also know that UMKC’s 6 year med program is a really good one because a friend of mine is going there. So good luck!

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/695607-wrong-me-fall-love-these-schools-chance-me-tell-2.html</a></p>

Your ACT is fine for those colleges that you mentioned but if you are certain you can do better than it is up to you. I believe you have a good chance at just about all those colleges.

as a valedictorian, i’d apply to some bigger reaches.

I agree with northface - you are aiming a little low in my opinion, unless those are the schools that you want, in which case good for you, but for the schools you mentioned your ACT is great and your gpa and class rank are excellent. I’d think about finding some reaches if I were you though you’ve got good enough stats to have a chance almost anywhere

thanks for the advice. what other schools do you think i should look at for reaches?

It would depend on exactly what you’re looking for, but I would say so would have a good shot at some Ivy’s and Liberal Arts schools… I don’t know what all the best pre-med schools are, but you may want to research that and apply there

could someone give me advice whether each school is a safety, match, or reach??

cloudygirl, give some intel as to your interests and what you’re looking for in a college and i can try to help :D.

this is a good start: “I will be pre-med, majoring in biology probably.”

what do you look for in a school? small? big? rural? urban? humanities vs sciences? any possible minors you’re interested in? east vs west coast? type of students? importance of party scene? etc…

thanks northface. i am looking for a medium to big university in a urban setting. i probably want to stay in the midwest or somewhere on the east coast, but if a good opportunity arises somewhere else, like the west coast, i would probably consider it. i’m pretty sure i dont want to go anywhere in the south, i like the winter!! i dont want a hard core party school, but it cant be somewhere where everyone is so serious and not wanting to have fun too. this is a big dream, but i would like to somewhere with a 6 year med program!! preferably medium class sizes, where the professors actually teach. right now im probably looking at a neuroscience minor, if possible. thanks for all the help!!

bump!! please!

UChicago and Northwestern are both great schools.

Ivy League:

Princeton, Cornell, and Dartmouth are all in more rural/suburban areas. Harvard and Yale are insanely difficult. Brown is in Providence, but that’s not the most bustling city (however, I’ve heard good things about its neuroscience undergraduate program). Penn is in Philly and Columbia is in NYC, so those two are reasonable big reaches, if you’re interested.

Johns Hopkins is acclaimed for medicine, but remember that if you want to get into med. school you’ll have to have great grades. Schools like JHU are probably going to be tough on the grading.

WashU in St. Louis is another school to consider.

Biology:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/14256-best-undergraduate-school-biology-biochem.html?highlight=biology+undergraduate</a></p>

Even though you just plan on minoring, check these out:

Oh, and if you’re going to apply to more competitive schools like some of the ones above, I’d maybe take the ACT again (33+) or try the SAT (2150+).

From the colleges you listed, I’d say you have a good shot at all of them. University of Chicago will be a challenge, but if your essays are well-written, then you’ll probably get in.

Chance me back if you want: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/697463-interested-seeing-ways-improve-my-application.html</a></p>

thanks for all the advice northface!! i will def check out those websites. does anyone know anything about the HPME program at Northwestern? i heard its really good, but super competitive.
