Confused about Cornell Essay...

Hey all, so I’m applying to Cornell University RD but I’m super confused about the essay question. I filled out in the academics section that my intended major and college of choice is the Charles H Dyson School of Applied management, but the essay question mentions something about how I think “an education at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences will help me.” Why is it asking me to write about CALS when my school of choice is the school of management? Or are they the same school? I have no idea, and this essay needs to be in by 1/02. If anyone can please clarify for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is part of CALS at Cornell. Applicants for admission to majors within CALS are major-specific – i.e. they are evaluated based on the extent to which their background, experience and interests have prepared them for their prospective major within CALS. So your essay should discuss how a Dyson education will help you. Take a look at the Cornell website description of the colleges and majors as you craft your essay - you should look at the course catalog to see what specific courses
of interest are offered, and discuss how taking these courses fit with your background and will help you meet your career goals.

FYI, Cornell is in the process of reorganizing the organizational structure of their business programs into a stand-alone College of Business, but as far as I know, decisions regarding the new College have not been finalized. Hopefully those with more up-to-date information will comment also.

Good luck.

Thank you my friend!
