So I applied to the UC’s as a transfer with about 64 credits as a rising junior from a 4 year institution. My admissions counselor told me that equates to like 90+ units…how is this calculated, can anybody help explain the UC system?
64 semester units or credits = 96 quarter units or credits.
The conversion is semester units x 1.5 = quarter units
All the UC’s except UC Berkeley and Merced are on quarters instead of semesters. When applying to the UC’s you need a minimum 60 semester or 90 quarter units/credits.
Also, the minimum to graduate is 120 semester units = 180 quarter units (a few majors require more because of voluminous subject requirements).
The quarter system has three 10-week quarters during the academic year, while the semester system has two 15-week semesters during the academic year.
Thank you! This helps clarify everything.
