Confused about Decisions Release

Hey, everyone!

I have a really dumb question, but I can’t seem to find the answer. How do all the Ivies notify their applicants? I’ve read some conflicting things about it being on the applicants portal, email, mail, etc., and I’m especially confused about the Yale, Princeton, and UChicago systems because I can’t find a clear “Decisions” page. How do the following schools notify their applicants?

  1. Harvard
  2. Yale
  3. Princeton
  4. Columbia
  5. Penn
  6. Dartmouth
  7. Cornell
  8. Brown
  9. Stanford
  10. Duke
  11. UChicago

Also, for the email ones, do they tell you in the email, or do they leave a cryptic “your application status has been updated?” Thanks! Appreciate the help.

By agreement, all 8 ivy league schools release RD decisions on the same date: https://admissions.dartmouth.edu/apply/fine-print/common-ivy-league-agreement

Currently Brown, Princeton, and UPenn list March 31st as the RD decision date on their websites, so I think that date would apply to Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale as well.

You’ll have to check with Stanford, Duke and UChicago as those schools do not coordinate RD decisions together or with the ivy league schools.

If that does not answer your question, check the school’s website or (gasp) call the school. Good luck.

Hi just wanted to chime in here. I am a freshman at Harvard. Notification for me was March 27, 2014, as it was for ALL the Ivies. Just thought I would mention that for those of you who haven’t heard yet. It is always at the end of March. Good luck to you all.

Historically Harvard has sent out waves of emails, starting at a previously announced time on the decision date. This can take several hours, and I’ve seen no evidence that these emails are sent in any obvious order. They are all individual emails with the recipient’s name in the body of the email - these are not broadcast emails.

If you don’t get an email instantly, you’ll most likely find the decision as a “Status update” on the web portal for the schools you listed. When you applied, you got an email with your login and password, along with the link to the portal. The decisions will be there for most Ivies on March 31st 5pm

@RicFlairFan, University of Chicago decisions have posted. If you haven’t seen yours already, check your portal.

@RicFlairFan Harvard sends you an email saying that your status on the portal has been updated. It includes a link to the portal, which after entering, you will have to follow another link to see the update itself.

I just called Harvard - they said admission notifications will be sent out via email, Tuesday March 31, 2015 after 5pm Eastern Time. Good luck everyone!!

@Holly65 Email, what? Are you sure? Because EA applicants were notified through a portal.

March 31 5pm.

@arabm2 Maybe they mean they’ll send out an email to check the portal.

@RicFlairFan‌ You’re correct - I’m pretty sure she said they were going to send and email advising applicants to check their portal. Sorry for the confusion

@arabm2‌ Yes - you are correct - the email will direct you to check your portal.

@Holly65 @go4cornell Ahhhh, I see. Thanks for clearing things up!

@arabm2 No problem!
