Confused about ED-BME

OK, I was interested in applying to JHU for the BME program, and I was reading their website when I read this:

*Exception: Early Decision applicants who are admitted to Johns Hopkins but who are not admitted to the biomedical engineering (BME) major at that time will be allowed to apply to and consider offers of admission from other institutions. The commitment to matriculate at Hopkins if accepted, as stated in the Early Decision Agreement, is null and void in this circumstance only. Such candidates will have until May 1 to reply to Hopkins' offer of admission.

I'm sorry that I'm slow, but I'm kind of confused. So does this mean that even if I apply to JHU ED, and assuming that I've applied to the BME major, I can also apply to other colleges, (for example, EASC to Yale) and then if I got rejected to the BME at JHU, I could just go ahead and go on to the other college?

Thanks for any clarification.

I think you answered your own question. EASC means you can't apply anywhere else early. It's just different from ED in that you can still apply RD to other institutions.

Just to clarify, I think the JHU clause releases you from the ED-commitment if and only if you are accepted ED, but not accepted ED-BME. If that should happen, you are free to apply RD elsewhere.

ahhh ok, i get it now. thanks a lot for ur clarification!

No problem. Good luck with your application!

Post your stats please. If you are ED or otherwise -BME then send your app at least 1 weak ahead of deadline. Call JHU admissions to make sure they have it.I have heard cases where registered/acknow;dement type package are misplaced either by postal service or JHU staff. BME is highly desired program mostly buy Asians types.

here is the ED BME policy explained more clearly (I think):

hope that helps.
