Confused about high school class rank percentile

So I was reading this guy's college admission sheet:

ACT: 36
SAT:2400
GPA:5.0
ECs:12
Honors: Nobel Peace Prize, Pulitzer Prize, Found cure for cancer, Saved Darfur, Found source of renewable energy, first five year old to get perfect score on ACT&SAT, Guiness World Record for highest IQ and richest teenager, youngest person that graduated from Harvard, Never got less than a 100% in a class, has a scientific discovery so profound, much more valuable than Einstein's and Newton's, he's afraid to reveal it because it will change the world forever and it could end up in the wrong hands
Class rank:1%

(okay i was bored)

I noticed his class rank but I thought a 1% meant that 99% of your class has a higher grade than you.

On my ACT score sheet mailed to me, it said I have a class rank of 75%(don't laugh if this is bad, I slacked off my first 2 years)

So can someone tell me what this means? Are my grades better than 75% of my class? Please tell me that's true.

on CC, most people say 1% to denote TOP 1%…idk how your school works…

Usually, a class rank of 75% would mean you’re better than 75% of your class. Top 25% of the class would mean the same thing, that you’re in the top 25% of students in the class.

The person you’re talking about with a rank of 1%- I think that’s supposed to mean top 1%.
